On June 22, 2024, the China-Ireland Marine Renewable Energy Seminar, organized by the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, was successfully held at Dalian University of Technology. More than 30 scholars from domestic and international universities, including University College Cork in Ireland, Zhejiang University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University, participated in the seminar. The seminar was co-hosted by Associate Professor Rongquan Wang and Associate Professor Robert Mayon of Dalian University of Technology.
The opening speech was delivered by Professor Dezhi Ning, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering. Professor Ning stated that the aim of the seminar was to exchange the latest research findings and progress in the field of marine renewable energy between China and Ireland, and to promote cooperation in this area. Both China and Ireland have significant potential for developing marine renewable energy, making collaborative research highly meaningful.
During the seminar, Professor Gregorio Iglesias from University College Cork, Researcher Siming Zheng from Zhejiang University, Professor Bingyong Guo from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Professor Lifin Chen, Dr. Wang Rongquan, Dr. Robert Mayon, Dr. Cong Peiwen, Dr. Zhou Yu, Xu Jin, and Zhuang Qianze from Dalian University of Technology, delivered impressive presentations and engaged in deep discussions. Their topics covered theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental research on scientific and engineering issues such as offshore wind turbines, oscillating water column type wave energy devices, oscillating buoy type wave energy devices, and the nonlinear resonance between water waves and structures.
Following the seminar, the scholars unanimously expressed that they had gained significant insights and looked forward to further in-depth discussions and collaboration in the field of marine renewable energy in the future.
