School of Infrastructure Engineering Hosts the 8th International Conference on Traffic Engineering and Transportation System (ICTETS 2024)

September 21, 2024 – The 8th International Conference on Traffic Engineering and Transportation System (ICTETS 2024), organized by the Department of Transportation and Logistics, under the School of Infrastructure Engineering at Dalian University of Technology, was successfully held on the university’s Lingshui Main Campus. Professors Shaopeng Zhong and Zhong Wang served as conference chairs, with the event drawing 112 experts and scholars from renowned institutions such as Tongji University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, Wuhan University of Technology, Ningbo University, and Sun Yat-sen University.

This years conference spotlighted advancements in traffic engineering and transportation systems, with a particular emphasis on innovations in green transportation and sustainable urban planning, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Renowned international scholars, including Prof. Tien Anh Tran (Vietnam Maritime University), Prof. Law Teik Hua (University Putra Malaysia), and Associate Researcher Salvatore Antonio Biancardo (University of Naples Federico II), enriched the conference as program committee members. Their contributions broadened the events global perspective, fostering international collaboration and progress in transportation research.

The opening ceremony, hosted by Professor Zhong Wang, Director of the Department of Transportation and Logistics, featured a welcome address by Professor Gang Li, Dean of the School of Infrastructure Engineering. Dean Li warmly welcomed all attendees and emphasized the conference's significance in advancing research on traffic engineering and transportation systems in China. He expressed his commitment to fostering further academic exchanges with partner institutions in the future.

Distinguished keynote speakers included Professor Jianjun Wu from Dalian University of Technology, Professor Feng Xiao, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Management Science Research Center at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Professor Zhongzhen Yang from Ningbo University, Professor Xiaoning Zhang from Tongji University, Professor Lixing Yang, Dean of the School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering at Beijing Jiaotong University, and Professor Ming Zhong from Wuhan University of Technology. These experts shared their latest research findings, advanced experiences, and insights into the trends and development directions of the transportation industry, sparking in-depth discussions among participants.

The conference featured two specialized sub-forums: Smart Transportation and Urban Planning and Intelligent Technology and Transportation Optimization, chaired by Associate Professors Hongmei Zhou and Lian Lian from Dalian University of Technology, with Associate Professors Jiangbo Wang from Dalian University of Technology and Xiaoyan Xie from Dalian Maritime University serving as co-judges. Scholars from institutions such as Southwest Jiaotong University, Chongqing Jiaotong University, and the National University of Defense Technology actively participated, presenting their latest research and engaging in in-depth discussions on the challenges and opportunities in the field of traffic engineering and transportation systems.

Jing Zhang (Southwestern University of Finance and Economics), Yao Jiang (Sun Yat-sen University), and Yufan Chen (Southwest Jiaotong University) were awarded the "Best Oral Presentation Award.


The success of ICTETS 2024 has laid a solid foundation for the internationalization and academic reputation of Dalian University of Technology’s transportation discipline. It has also infused new vitality into the development of traffic engineering across China. By bridging the gap with global frontier research, the conference has advanced explorations into smart transportation, energy-saving technologies, and multimodal transportation systems. These efforts provide valuable insights and experiences for the intelligent and sustainable development of China's transportation systems, driving innovation and progress in the field.
